Review before release
Run the checklist and check the 15 common mistakes.
A 92-page handbook for reading, writing and inspecting GD&T callouts to ASME Y14.5-2018, with notes where ISO 1101 differs. It is printed on a 7 × 10 in page, with 24 vector figures and a summary box at the start and end of every part.
One idea, in a minute
Coordinate tolerancing gives a hole a square zone. A round pin does not care in which direction the hole is off, so the honest zone is a circle. For mm the circle through the square’s corners is mm and holds 57 % more usable area. The handbook builds from this idea to datums, material conditions, position, profile and inspection.

Choose your edition
The picker at the top of the page switches between three editions of the same material.
- Cheat Sheet: a free six-page reference with the 12 characteristics, the frame, datums, the two rules and the key formulas.
- Handbook: this book, every part in full, with worked examples, a drawing review checklist and a practice exam with solutions.
- Pro Handbook and Inspection Kit: the handbook plus two protected Excel workbooks, 36 printable flashcards and a guide to using them.
Who it is for
Design engineers who write GD&T callouts, drafters and checkers who review drawings, and quality and CMM engineers who inspect to them.
This is a reference handbook, not a substitute for the standards. Check requirements against the current ASME Y14.5 and ISO documents for your contract or customer.
